Join Willow Bend to learn more about solar energy and ways to bring this cutting-edge science into K-12 classrooms! This full-day workshop will introduce the science of electricity and photovoltaic systems through hands-on activities, interactive games, and lectures / discussions hosted by Ryan Holtz, aerospace engineer and owner of Prometheus Solar. Participants will also receive activities to do with students of all ages, a so...lar-cooked lunch, and .75 continuing education credits!

Every month a different school will be featured, with an exhibit showcasing a particular theme and medium, and if possible, a small performance by the featured school! 

A recycled art activity will be provided by Willow Bend for any interested visitors, as will snacks.

Thanks to a generous grant from Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative (ABCI), Audubon Arizona staff has been able to revamp the popular Science Takes Wing program. This program teaches common Arizona birds and is aligned to AZ state science standards for 6-8 grades. Two modules are currently available; the Central Arizona module focuses on common desert birds and the Northern Arizona module covers birds most likely to be seen in Arizona’s high country.

Audubon Arizona, the Bureau of Land Management, the Phoenix Union High School District and Phoenix College have teamed up to provide high school students with a clear path to ecological understanding, stewardship, and careers in land and resource management.

We'll look at the role of fire in our northern Arizona ponderosa pine ecosystem and how land managers use fire to maintain and create wildlife habitat.

Water’s Changing Journey

With the wonderful combination of an instructor’s guidance and our interactive exhibits, students learn where water comes from and how they can help to conserve it and keep it clean. Through the hands-on approach of our exhibits coupled with the outdoor experience of dipping for pond and river insects or conducting water quality surveys, students learn how important water is to all living creatures in our desert environment.

 “River Keepers” After-school Program

Audubon Arizona, with generous funding from REI and JP Morgan Chase Bank, is pleased to offer an exciting hands-on nature experience on the banks of the Salt River called “River Keepers”. We provide this program free of charge to students at South Phoenix after-school care facilities such as the Boys and Girls Club and Valley Christian Center.
