The Sonoran Naturalist is available for educational wildlife presentations mostly on Fridays, but availability is limited so do contact early for availability. During the presentation, the introduction of different animal species that exist in the Sonoran Desert and information about them is included. A large variety of live animals available for shows! When safe, audience is allowed interactions with the animals present.

This activity is designed to teach students the fundamentals of pollination, including basic methods of plant reproduction and the role of animals as pollinators in plant reproduction.

Thanks to a generous grant from Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative (ABCI), Audubon Arizona staff has been able to revamp the popular Science Takes Wing program. This program teaches common Arizona birds and is aligned to AZ state science standards for 6-8 grades. Two modules are currently available; the Central Arizona module focuses on common desert birds and the Northern Arizona module covers birds most likely to be seen in Arizona’s high country.

Audubon Arizona, the Bureau of Land Management, the Phoenix Union High School District and Phoenix College have teamed up to provide high school students with a clear path to ecological understanding, stewardship, and careers in land and resource management.

Fire Ecology:

Are forest fires always a bad thing?

We'll look at the role of fire in our northern Arizona ponderosa pine ecosystem and how land managers use fire to maintain and create wildlife habitat.

Meet experts that will share what they do and how you can get training and experience necessary to enter environmentally-focused careers. These events are free to the public, as are all events at the Rio Salado Audubon Center. 

Questing is a natural history scavenger hunt designed to connect people with the history and culture of a particular area.

Every month a different school will be featured, with an exhibit showcasing a particular theme and medium, and if possible, a small performance by the featured school! 

A recycled art activity will be provided by Willow Bend for any interested visitors, as will snacks.

On the first Friday of each month, meet on the corner of E. Butler Ave. and S. Babbitt Dr. for a behind-the-scenes green tour of recycling in our community!
