Visceral Change and AAEE believe that social justice intersects with all that we do. In order to develop inclusive and equitable programs and organizations we must first look at how we show up and who we are, and then reflect on how we may be received by others in the community.
This series of five, two-hour, online workshops allow us to explore social justice concepts. We will reflect on how a social justice mindset can benefit us as we design educational programs for our communities, communicate most effectively with a diversity of people, and share our passions about the natural world by understanding how others see it.
The Core Five Components to Social Justice include:
- Power and Privilege – September 29, 2020 – 4pm-6pm
- Identity and Intersectionality – October 27, 2020 – 4pm – 6pm
- Systems of Socialization – November 17, 2020 – 4pm – 6pm
- Cultural Competence – December 15, 2020 – 4pm – 6pm
- Allyship and Advocacy – January 26, 2021 – 4pm – 6pm
To fully participate we ask that you commit to attending all five workshops in the series.
We can only enroll 50 people on a first-come, first-serve basis. So if you know you can’t attend all five, please take a pass and we may offer this opportunity again in the future.
We will also have an AAEE workbook to complete along the way with an option for participating in a team-based project at the completion of the series of five.
We seek groups of individuals from organizations or programs who’d like to commit to developing an action plan for integrating this work into their organizational outcomes. These teams will be invited to share their action plan and outcomes at our AAEE Conference in September of 2021.
The cost of this series is:
- AAEE Member Rate – $115
- Non-Member Rate – $140
That cost includes the facilitator fee, volunteer time to create and host the event, and materials which will be delivered to participants. We are delivering this workshop at cost.
