This position provides fun and engaging environmental education experiences for our camp program participants.

Responsibilities Include:

Camp Planning –

  • Participate in a team training session (3/1) and prep days (3/8 and 3/9) prior to the start of camp
  • Prepare and organize camp supplies and instructional materials for your class
  • Assist with camp clean up and debriefing
  • Communicate and plan with camp team to prepare lessons and activities

Teaching –

  • Serve as lead teacher and primary supervisor for all aspects of at least one onsite camp session:
    • March 12 – 16 (Day Camp 8:30am – 3:00pm)
    • March 12 – 16 (Extended Camp 3:00 – 6:00pm)
    • March 19 – 23 (Day Camp 8:30am – 3:00pm)
    • March 19 – 23 (Extended Camp 3:00 – 6:00pm)
  • Prepare classroom and initiate all activities while camp is in session
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and well organized learning environment
  • Work as a team member with volunteers and staff to communicate daily with parents and produce excellent experiences for camp participants

Volunteer Coordination –

  • Coordinate team teaching and support responsibilities with Volunteer Teaching Assistants and Volunteer Camp Counselors

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  1. B.A. or B.S. in Education, Environmental Education, Life Sciences or related field or degree in progress
  2. Possession of a current Level 1 IVP fingerprint clearance card
  3. Demonstrated success in curriculum interpretation, teaching, and group management capabilities
  4. Demonstrated camp or outdoor teaching experience
  5. Knowledge of Sonoran Desert ecology, botany, horticulture, or similar background
  6. Ability to successfully complete an extended background check
  7. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  8. Ability to traverse Garden trails in all weather conditions
  9. Ability to perform light bending and lifting (up to 25 lbs.) associated with routine job duties
